Clemens Metz

After completing his MBA in Business Administration, Clemens Metz spent several years working in the logistics industry, first as a branch manager and later as a managing director.

He has been the managing director of Studierendenwerk Freiburg since 2002. Creating optimal conditions for students while acting in an economically responsible manner and upholding environmental and social responsibilities has always been a central part of his work philosophy.

Not least for this reason, he signed the KLIMAWIN Charter, a reporting system for climate-conscious and sustainable businesses, of the State of Baden-Württemberg for Studierendenwerk Freiburg as early as 2021 and devotes significant space in the annual reports to the topic of sustainability in all its facets.

One of the focal points of his work is the creation of climate-friendly, affordable housing for students. Between 2018 and 2025 alone, the organization invested 160 million euros under his leadership in the construction of student housing, thereby creating around 2,000 new residential units.

Clemens Metz aims to make Studierendenwerk Freiburg one of the student services organizations in Germany with the lowest greenhouse gas emissions and to make it climate-neutral by 2040 at the latest.
